INSIDER: BACKSTAGE WITH SCGL EVENT STYLISTS

First impressions count. So to amaze your guests and make a statement from the moment they arrive you need to create an event environment that is fresh, unique and truly unforgettable. Meet three key event stylists from the Staging Connections Group.

As part of a Staging Connections event team, event stylists are passionate about transforming event spaces into event experiences. Stylists work on all event types and sizes, from small intimate dinners through to large gala evenings and awards nights. No matter the event, stylists can create the theme, decor and atmosphere to ensure that your event is engaging and unique.

Often involved from start to finish, stylists develop the creative concepts and coordinate the sourcing, manufacture and preparation of all creative elements, through to assisting with the final on-site dressing and styling of the event. Translating your concept or message into an idea and executable style means that event stylists really do bring your vision to life.

With diverse backgrounds such as visual merchandising, retail design, fashion and interior design, stylists have a critical eye for detail and a strong understanding of how colour, texture and form can be used to create a dramatic and inviting atmosphere in almost any event space.

To assist in delivering an event that will have a lasting impression, Staging Connections has a team of eighteen experienced and creative event stylists right across Australia. This month we've profiled a selection of our leading event stylists for you to meet.

Best show you've worked on: The Australian Open between 2003 and 2006, where I worked with the creative and technical team to design and implement each event's hospitality and social requirements.

Most interesting styling trend in the market: Two trends that I am excited about include: the use of a monochromatic, tonal and textural overlay of different design elements combined to create a very unique look and feel. Secondly, the use of vivid and vibrant colour combined with classic styling and decor elements to create an eclectic styled environment.

Top tip for styled environments: Don't work against the limitations of an environment, but rather work within them.

Best show you've worked on: Star City NYE "Star Wars" show

Most interesting styling trend on the market: The exploration of texture and print. Glam is popular.
Top tip for styled environments: A theme is not just how the room appears - you are creating a total experience. So, make sure you consider all the senses to help create this experience. This emotional attachment will mean a job well done. And remember to keep it clean and simple, a cluttered or busy environment isn't pleasant.

Best show you've worked on: Primavera's Top Secret Show and the French Theatre, Parisian Ball event we delivered for AHA.

Most interesting styling trend in the market: Chic and glamour are two styles that are very prominent right now. The use of chandeliers, motif prints and minimalist furniture layouts are all key elements of styling briefs.

Top tips for styled environments: Less is more. Allow a room to breathe with open spaces. Also create a must-have talking point, such as a stunning centrepiece, a breathtaking stage design or a show-stopping opening, to capture the mood of guests and create a buzz in the room.
